My Story

Hi, I’m Louise Downie. Welcome to my page - here’s a little bit about me.

I’m a qualified Midwife and recently qualified as a Health Visitor after spending another year back at uni! Having experience in both roles gives me a unique mix of knowledge and allows me to support families not only through pregnancy and birth, but also through early parenthood and child development too.

My midwifery background includes working in a labour suite, antenatal and postnatal wards, as well as out in the community. I’ve supported all types of births, from caesarean births to home births, and I feel incredibly privileged to have been part of so many special and life-changing moments for families.

As a Health Visitor, I also understand the journey that continues after birth - supporting feeding, emotional wellbeing, weaning, infant development and the transition into parenthood. I love being able to support families more holistically, bridging the gap between preparing for birth and adjusting to life with a new baby.

One of the things I love most about my work is visiting families at home with their precious new babies as they begin this huge new chapter in life. I truly believe every woman deserves compassionate, holistic care during this transformative time, and I feel very lucky to do a job I genuinely love.

I’m also a mum of two and have breastfed both of my children, which has given me real insight into the realities of feeding - both the beautiful moments and the challenges that can come with it. I’ve experienced both a caesarean birth and a successful VBAC (vaginal birth after caesarean), so I understand first-hand how different every birth journey can be and the emotions that come along with that.

My own journey to motherhood wasn’t straightforward either. After a long and painful IVF journey, we were finally blessed with our two beautiful children. Going through that experience gave me a much deeper understanding of the anxieties that can come with pregnancy, birth and becoming a parent, and it allows me to support families with genuine empathy and compassion.

During my own pregnancy, I completely fell in love with hypnobirthing after attending a midwife-led course with my husband. I listened to the audio tracks most nights to help manage my anxiety, and the breathing techniques quickly became part of everyday life for me. Combining my passion for supporting families with my love of hypnobirthing felt like such a natural step. I later became a certified hypnobirthing instructor and started my own business to share these two passions with others.

Outside of work, I’m a wife, mum and dog mum, and I love nothing more than spending quality time with my family.  I’m lucky to have a wonderful group of close friends and love a good catch-up day or night with the girls too.

I’m so excited to share my classes with the next generation of families. I’ve created a relaxed and welcoming environment, with small class sizes to make sure everyone gets the support, care and attention they deserve while preparing for birth and beyond.

That's enough about me, these classes are all about you and your exciting journey ahead.

I look forward to welcoming you to my classes.

Thanks so much for reading.
